In a lunchtime seminar with the NI Social Care Council on 27 February 2024, New Script activists outlined the failures of the current medicalised, individualised model of mental health, including the serious lack of accountability for devastating failures in care. They shared the results of a community consultation carried out in 2023, as well as their collective vision for a New Script for Mental Health.
They also highlighted examples of human rights based, trauma informed alternatives such as The Rest of the Story storytelling programme. Over 100 social workers and social care workers were then invited to write and share their own New Scripts for Mental Health.
